His Excellency the President, Rtd Brig. Julius Maada Bio has recently assured delegates from the Arab Development Bank (BADEA) at State House that his government would ensure that donor funds are judiciously expended by the ‘New Direction’ administration.

President Bio furthered that his government would be accountable and transparent in its implementation of development projects.

“We need a strong foundation for the development of this nation. This is a new government that needs investment and commitment from develop partners to salvage the country from the precarious economy it inherited,” the President said, adding that his administration will manage expenditure control and embark strongly on revenue mobilization.

Despite the precarious economy inherited, the President said his government has handled the situation cautiously. He therefore called on BADEA and other development partners to provide the requisite support especially in the government’s flagship programme – the free quality education scheme.

In response, the head of the delegation said that BADEA is operating in 18 African countries supporting development projects, adding that the Bank started operating in Sierra Leone since 1974 but suspended its operation in 1980 and resumed in 2001 to date. He went further to state that he is optimistic that the President will succeed in his free quality education scheme.

In his address, the Minister of Finance, Jacob J. Saffa, who accompanied the delegation to State House, stated that the government and the Ministry of Finance would work diligently in achieving the key priorities of the President, adding that education is one of their key priority areas which, he assured, would become a success story.
