Bank Governor Sacked

It emerged late yesterday that the Governor of Bank of Sierra Leone, Dr. Patrick Conteh has been reportedly sacked by the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) led Government of Rtd. Brig Julius Maada Bio.

Reason(s) for his sacking was not known as at press time but according to impeccable sources, the sacked Bank Governor has also been recommended by the SLPP Government for investigation into his official activities as Deputy Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB), Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED) in the former Koroma administration and as Bank Governor.

It could be recalled that Dr. Patrick Conteh was Deputy Managing Director of SLCB when the bank was rocked with loan scandal running into tens of billions of Leones that were loaned to some indigenous investors who failed to pay their loans.

After Dr. Patrick Conteh was relieved of his duty as Deputy Managing Director at the bank, former President Ernest Bai Koroma saw it expedient to nominate him as Minister of State and was approved by Parliament before the former President finally appointed him as Bank Governor.
