As Political Tension Heightens NGC Calls For Calm

The National Grand Coalition (NGC) party has called on the two main political parties, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the All People’s Congress to calm their members and supporters in order to reduce the political tension in the country.

A press release from the NGC signed by the Chairman, Dr Dennis Bright stated that NGC is very concerned about the numerous confrontations between the two parties and the recent riot at the Pademba Road Correctional Services for which both parties accused each other.

NGC cautioned that no patriotic citizen would want to taste the bitterness of civil war, noting that some members of both parties are on social media disseminating messages of hate and war.

The NGC statement noted further that political parties have a big role to play in ensuring that the citizenry lives in peace and cohesion. “No political party should be proud to drag their people back into bloodshed and deaths,” excerpt of the NGC statement states.

“The people of Sierra Leone have suffered for a long time,” NGC lamented, adding that it is time political parties show sympathy for the people by ensuring that they join hands in the fight against the deadly COVID-19 that is crippling the country and world economies than splitting the nation with intra party conflicts.
