As Labour Ministry Targets Recruitment Agencies… Overseas Employment Put On Hold


The Ministry of Labour and Social Security is reported to have started targeting agencies in the business of recruiting Sierra Leoneans for jobs overseas.

According to the Information Officer at the Ministry, Mr. Lansanah Bayoh, his Ministry is taking such a measure in order to ensure that recruiting agencies follow the correct procedures before employing people for overseas jobs.

He further disclosed that the Ministry is requesting all recruitment agencies in the country to return all documents that was given them by the Ministry including Business Registration, Tax, police and NASSIT clearances, Bank Account and addresses of counterparts overseas. All of these measures, he said is to discourage labour migrations in the country.

The Information Officer continued that the Ministry has received a number of complaints from people that are involved in such employment which he referred to as a crime, adding that the Ministry is working with other government bodies to stop such criminal activity forthwith.
