As He Rejects Replaced Security… Ernest Fears

Special Assistant to the Office of the erstwhile President Ernest Bai Koroma at 2 Femi Turner Drive, Goderich on the outskirts of Freetown has written a letter to the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) with reference number P17/20 raising grave security concern over the abrupt change of the security details of the former President at his residence in Makeni without consulting him.

The letter written by the Special Assistant to the IGP is reproduced verbatim as follows:-

The withdrawal, transfers of security guards without due consultations

I am instructed to inform you that the former President, Ernest Bai Koroma rejects the abrupt transfer and replacement of the security personnel assigned to guide him, his family and his residence. The former President also strongly rejects the proposed deployment of any such security personnel on whose selection and vetting he has not been consulted and whose professional competence and discipline he has no prior information about.

Whilst the former President acknowledges the meeting in this afternoon of 10th May, 2019 between himself and the Brigade Commander – North, Brigadier David Alpha and the Assistant inspector General of Police (AIG) North – AIG Ambrose Michael Sovula – he views the meeting as an afterthought since it came after the public dissemination of the transfer order, No. 50/05/2019 of 9th May, 2019.

In fact, the meeting was not to consult with him on any changes to his security details neither, the Brigade Commander and the AIG’s purpose was to present a set of new personnel as part of his security. The former President therefore considers as suspect, faulty and disrespectful such abrupt transfer and replacement of the security personnel who have been diligently serving him and with whom he has had no problem.

By copy of this letter, the former President hereby informs the international community of what he considers as a security threat to his personal safety and that of his family.

Yours sincerely,

Sheriff Mahmud Ismail

Special Assistant to former President Koroma
