As Energy Ministry Signs 20 Megawatt Agreement… Electricity Boom 4 F/town

The Ministry of Energy and the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) have signed an agreement with the independent power provider – Aggreko – for an additional 20 megawatts to boost electricity supply in Freetown and communities on its outskirts.

A very reliable source in the Energy Ministry disclosed that the agreement was signed on Monday 3rd April after Aggreko won the bid in an International Tender process approved by World Bank. The source also disclosed that the emergency power generators that were recently procured by the Ministry for installation at the Kingtom and Blackhall Road power stations would start distributing power within ten days from the date of signing the agreement. “Procurement process had involved detailed negotiation as well as the vital concurrence from the Finance Ministry,” said the source.

The Minister of Energy, Ambassador Henry Macauley was quoted as saying that the move to sign the agreement was part of his Ministry’s strategy to bring in viable private investment in the energy sector in line with President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma’s vision for sustainable energy supply to the people.
