As Bio Thrills UK… Big Hopes For Salone


His Excellency the President, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio yesterday, 6th June, 2019, officially opened the ongoing three-day UK-Sierra Leone Trade and Investment Conference at the Exchange House in London.

“We are going to radically transform Sierra Leone within five years,” the Chairman Presidential Infrastructure Initiative (PII), Dr. Tambi said at the conference.

According to him, from the Lungi Bridge to a port facility in Bonthe, many areas in Sierra Leone have been mapped out to benefit from a nationally enhancing development drive.

The Lungi Bridge, he informed, will be an 8Km long bridge of 6 lanes with 120 years lifetime, adding that there is going to be a new airport terminal and new tourist hub, creating at least 5000 jobs a year.

According to the Advisor to the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), it is going to be a transformational project for Sierra Leone.

At the opening session of the conference yesterday which attracted over 300 investors, The UK was represented by the Minister of State UK Department for International Development (DfID), Hon. Harriett Baldwin. Also in attendance was the British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, HMA Guy Warrington.

The huge turnout at the conference, according to many, is a demonstration of great confidence in the Sierra Leone Government and the impressive leadership of President Julius Maada Bio to attract investors to Sierra Leone.
