As APC, NGC Lock Horns… Kambia On Fire

One Mohamed M. Suma, Santigie Bangura and five others are currently helping the police with investigations following a political violence in Kambia district that led to the stabbing of one person.

According to the human rights monitor in Kambia district, Ibrahim B. Fofanah, the violence occurred as a result of the alleged tearing of political banners and posters by certain individuals in Kychom town, Samu Chiefdom. Explaining further, Ibrahim Fofanah said that on Friday, 5th January, 2018, the said Mohamed M. Suma who is a member of the All People’s Congress (APC) party, reported that two posters of one Madam Aminata Suma aspiring for the parliamentary symbol of the APC in Constituency 062, Samu Chiefdom went missing. According to report, he threatened to destroy all posters and banners posted by the National Ground Coalition (NGC) party if the missing posters were not found.

Report went on that in the early hours of Sunday, 7th January, supporters and members of the NGC party in Kychom township discovered that all the posters and banners of the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (KKY) were destroyed. The said action provoked over 100 supporters and members of the NGC party who rushed to the residence of Mohamed Suma to inquire as to who did the act. On seeing the irate crowd Suma reportedly informed that the said act was done by one Santigie Bangura. The crowd, reports furthered, rushed to Bangura’s in order to ascertain the fact. Bangura who reports say admitted that indeed he did the act said, he did so on the orders of Mohamed Suma. The angry crowd, allegedly mobbed Sumah and Bangura and in the process, one Saidu Suma, son of Mohamed Sumah allegedly stabbed one of the NGC supporters, Abu I. Kamara in the neck leaving him bleeding profusely. According to report, he is currently hospitalized at the Kambia Government Hospital.

Meanwhile, police personnel from the Kambia Police Station have reportedly materialized at the crime scene and are trying to pacify the situation.
