As ACC Grows Teeth… 9 Arrested


A release from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Friday, 24th August, 2018 disclosed the arrest of nine (9) persons including two from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, two from the Immigration Department, one from the Administrator and Registrar General’s Office, one from Ishmarie Enterprise and three from the Sierra Leone Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union; all for corruption related offences.

According to the release, the arrest of the suspects from Foreign Affairs Ministry, Immigration Department, Registrar General’s Office and Ishmarie Enterprise comes following an ongoing investigation into the issuance of Service Passport to individuals who are neither civil or public servants that allegedly paid the sum of one thousand United States Dollars, (USD 1000) each to acquire the said passport.

The arrest of the three executive members of the Sierra Leone Motor Drivers Union, the release further disclosed, is in relation to allegations of misappropriation of public funds amounting to thirty two billion Leones collected for and on behalf of the Union. The three Executive Members of the Motor Drivers Union, according to the release, include the President, Secretary General and Treasurer.

The Commission concluded by assuring all Sierra Leoneans of its relentless determinations to curb corruption at all levels of society.
