As ACC Arrests 2… Mohamed Bangura In Trouble

Head of the country’s anti-graft agency, Lawyer Francis Ben Kaifala has disclosed the arrest of former head of the Sierra Leone Cable Limited (SALCAB), Mohamed Sheriff and the Board Chairman, Mr. Yilla whilst the former Minister of Information and Communications  now sitting Member of Parliament, Mohamed Bangura has reportedly been invited for questioning.

According to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Boss, the two are in the Commission’s net for various corruption related allegations that resulted to the loss of about four million United States Dollars (US$4M) between the period of 2015 and 2018.

Their arrest, he added, comes following the Tuesday 2nd April, 2019 launch of the special forensic and technical audit report which claimed that more than one billion United States Dollars (US$1b) was allegedly stolen in four sectors – Telecom, Road, Energy and Social Security in three years.

Meanwhile, according to Hon. Mohamed Bangura, his invitation to the ACC is connected to a three hundred thousand United States Dollars (US$300,000) that was paid into his ministry’s account.

He admitted that the money was indeed paid into the ministry’s account but it was immediately withdrawn by the then Permanent Secretary on the orders of SALCAB management.
