A high-powered delegation of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has on Tuesday, 31st July, 2018 met with the Executive Management Board (EMB) which is the highest decision making body of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) at their George Street Headquarters.

The said meeting, according to report, was about two issues – the continuous intimidation, harassment and violence on their members and supporters and to put in place security arrangement for the smooth return of the party’s Chairman and Leader, former President Koroma which the party had earlier informed the EMB about.

At the meeting, the National Secretary General of the APC, Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh called on the police to consider reported cases of harassment, political intimidation and violence on their members across the country.

“Our Chairman and leader will have a short meeting with party executives in Kambia office and will proceed to Makeni through Port Loko and Lunsar,” Ambassador Yansaneh told the police, noting that the convoy will comprise of a motorcade of fifty vehicles and there will be no stop over after takeoff from the District headquarter office of the party in Kambia.

In his response the Inspector General  of Police (IGP) Dr. Richard Moigbe ordered the Operation Director Assistant Inspector General of Police, Elizabeth Turay to put in place security apparatus for the smooth return of the APC Chairman and Leader.

Regarding the concerns raised about political intimidation, the IGP stated that the SLP is completely apolitical and that its mandate is to, among other things, protect lives and properties. Investigation into the APC allegations, he said, will be looked into.

He appreciated the APC leadership for engaging the SLP and called on them to always continue such engagements as and when the need arises.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that ex-President Koroma has, for whatever reason(s), deferred his homecoming.
