APC Calls On International Community

By Thomas S. Kembay

The National Secretary General of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC), Amb. Alhaji Dr. Osman Foday Yansaneh has disclosed that as a political party, they are calling on the International Community for their intervention in the three Commissions of Inquiry (COIs) that have been set up by Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Government to investigate former APC Government officials.

Making the disclosure recently in a news conference at the APC Headquarters on Railway Line, Brookfields, Freetown to state their position on the Commissions of Inquiry (COI), the APC scribe said when the ruling SLPP wanted to pass constitutional instruments 64, 65 and 67 without being debated, it was the intervention of the International Community, especially the ECOWAS Committee that came to the country and schooled the Speaker on parliamentary proceedings.

“It was the ECOWAS Committee that educated our Speaker that the days of Parliament are not counted when the House is on recess,” said Amb. Yansaneh, adding that it was based on the ECOWAS Committee’s advice that Constitutional Instrument 64, 65 and 67 were debated.

The APC scribe furthered that as a party, they believe that the intervention of the International Community, especially the ECOWAS Committee, would help bring a lasting solution to the current issue over the COIs.

He reiterated that they as a party would not honor the proceedings of the COIs when their call for rules of evidence according to Section 150 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone and documentation allegations are not looked into.

Amb. Yansaneh therefore assured that they were ready to face the rule of law.
