Ahead Of Bye-Election… Political Big Guns Banned

Political big guns wishing to witness the 9th of March, 2019 Local Council re-run bye-election in Ward 196, Constituency 58, Tonko Limba Chiefdom, Kambia District, have been banned from being within the precinct of the polling centers.

This ban came following a meeting with the three contesting political parties and stakeholders – the All People’s Congress (APC), Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the National Grand Coalition (NGC), the National Electoral Commission (NGC), The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Office of National Security (ONS) and the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) that saw the signing of an Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the conduct of peaceful re-run election.

According to the MOU, the security sector shall restrict the movement of no-accredited high profiled politicians, non voters and unauthorized persons within and outside the polling centers.

The MOU also added that all political actors, party stalwarts and non-accredited individuals who are not ordinarily residents nor eligible to vote in Ward 196 must not be seen within the precinct of polling centers on polling day, 9th March, 2019.

Political parties agreed to individually, collectively and actively promote tolerance and condemn any act of violence and intimidation by their supporters before, during and after the polling day.

They also commit to respect the will of the people and to accept the result of the election and further to graciously concede defeat provided the elections are transparent, free and fair and follow the due process of the law.

NEC assures to provide a conducive environment and a level playing field for all contesting parties.
