Africa Centre for Statistics Commends NCRA Boss

 

The Director of the Africa Centre for Statistics at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Oliver Chinganya, has commended the Director General of the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA), Mohammed M. Massaquoi, for his astute leadership.

In a letter dated 15th February, 2019 Mr. Chinganya registered his appreciation over some key accomplishments already made by the NCRA boss and partners in moving forward the Civil Registration and Vital Statistic (CVRS) comprehensive assessment planning process in the country.

He further lauded the government of His Excellency, President Julius Maada Bio for his unwavering political commitment to the NCRA; particularly the civil registration and vital statistic assessment and strategic planning.

Mr. Chinganya noted with special attention the moves by the current government to reform and improves the national civil registration and legal identification system in the country.

He assured the Director General of the National Civil Registration Authority of his institution’s commitment to continue to provide support to strengthen the civil registration and vital statistics system in Sierra Leone.

The CVRS comprehensive assessment planning process was recently jointly carried out by regional Civil Registration and Vital Statistic (CRVS) core group, Economic Centre for Africa, the NCRA and other partners to prepare a comprehensive assessment and development of a cost action plan for the implementation of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistic system in the country which would help government plan and design necessary reforms within the system.

Although he is yet to clock one year as Director General of the NCRA, Mr. Massaquoi’s dedication and commitment to transform the NCRA into a vital national institution cannot be over emphasized, cognizance of his moves to ensure a comprehensive national civil register as well as assist government establish and maintain a transparent and up to date national civil service data; a swift action that has earned him enormous commendations in recent times.
