ACC Returns 609 Bags Of Stolen Chinese Rice

The North-West province office of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has returned to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education 609 bags of rice, part of the huge consignment of rice that was donated by the Government of China to MBSSE in support of the school feeding programme.

It could be recalled that on the 13th of January, 2020, in order to facilitate investigation by the ACC, President Bio relieved from duty until further notice, the former Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Alpha Timbo who had been transferred to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security for alleged complicity in the disappearance of about 50, 000 bags of rice. Three other officials including the Deputy Minister of Education were also brought in for questioning by ACC. All four were charged to court.

After a controversial trial, in which the ACC, for technical reasons, said it will not pursue the matter because the former Attorney General refused the trial to be conducted by judge alone, the matter was dismissed by the High Court. Both Alpha Timbo and the Deputy Minister of Education were last week reinstated into offices by President Bio.
