5000 Houses For Freetown

Speaking in a radio interview on the ‘Transform Freetown’ project, yesterday, 28th January, 2019, Her Worship, the Mayor of Freetown City Council (FCC), Madam Yvonne Aki-Sawyer has disclosed that by 2020 five thousand (5000) new houses would have been constructed in the capital city.

The construction of the 5000 housing Units, she said, is the second priority under the ‘Transform Freetown’ initiative which is expected to benefit many Sierra Leoneans, especially city dwellers.

She continued that the construction will be done in collaboration with the Western Rural District Council. Earlier, she said, the first priority under the project will be environmental management in which each of the 48 Wards in the municipality will become resilience to manage risk and be able to respond to any disorder, the second, is construction of the 5000 houses and the third targets revenue mobilization, pointing out that the FCC will increase its tax collection drive by four folds against 2020.

She recalled that in 2018 the Council collected seven billion Leones (Le7bn) and that by 2020 the amount would be increased to thirty five billion Leones (Le 35bn).

The ‘Transform Freetown’ project, she said, is a three- year project targeting 2022.
