460 Police Personnel Promoted

Director of Human Resources in the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Assistance Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Aiah Edward Samadia has on the 3rd of January disclosed that four hundred and Sixty (460) senior and junior officers have benefitted from the recent promotion and confirmation in the force.

Speaking at the Police Headquarters on George Street in Freetown, AIG Samadia said thirty one (31) Senior Officers ranging from the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police to Assistance Superintendent of Police (ASP) were confirmed while four hundred and twenty nine (429) Junior and Constables were promoted to Inspector bringing the total number to 460 promoted and confirmed officers.

He dismissed rumor doing the rounds that the said promotions were political motivated, stating that it was done based on merit. AIG Samadia continued that business in the force will not be a usual noting that promotions henceforth, will be in line with budget plan to avoid backlog or other financial embarrassments to the force.

On his update on police operations, Director of Community Affairs, AIG Kalia Sesay stated that Sierra Leone was peaceful throughout 2018 and that they were able to police the country during the past national elections and through the transition period much to the satisfaction of the people of this country and the international community, for which, he said, the SLP deserves commendation and accolade from Sierra Leoneans.

“We all saw Sierra Leone rated by the Global Peace Index as the first peaceful country in West Africa and third in Africa,” boasted AIG Sesay and therefore urged Sierra Leoneans that there are several ways of seeking redress than engaging in violence and called on all to be law abiding.

Head of Police Media Superintendent Brima Kamara pointed out that the mandate of the police does not change with the change of government.
