3 Hydro Dams In Deplorable State -Energy Minister Discovers

The Minister of Energy and Electricity Supply, Alhaji Kanja Sesay recently paid visits to the Charlotte, Bankasoka, Makalay and Koidu Hydro  power dams to see firsthand, the current facilities available  at those dams.

In his inspection tour, the Minister discovered that the Charlotte Hydro Power Dam was in good condition but however expressed dismay over the other hydro dams he discovered to be in deplorable conditions. The Bankasoka hydro power, the Minister said, has heavy transmission and distribution network but that the people in the area complain about the unavailability of meters. The Minister also confirmed the unavailability of metres in the said community.

Regarding the other dams, the Minister said, his Ministry is putting urgent measures in place to ensure that they are well maintained, going forward, adding that  Makalay community faces huge constrains over  electricity supply.

However, the senior Engineer at the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has stated that the Authority would ensure its engineers address the issue forthwith, adding that the Authority will soon send experts to the field and ensure that the issue of meter shortage is resolved.

In her response, the Resident Minister, North-West Region, Haja Isata Abdulai Kamara said the major problem they are facing is electricity supply during the dries when the water level reduces drastically.
