2018/2019 Budget… Gov’t Targets 8 Priority Areas

 

Opening the 2019 Budget hearing at the Bank of Sierrsa Leone Complex, Kingtom, Freetown on Wednesday 12th September 2018, the Chief Minister, Prof. David Francis has called on all Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to align all projects and programmes around the eight (8) core priority areas of the people’s Manifesto.

The 8 core priority areas according to the Chief Minister include, education, economy, agriculture, health infrastructure, worruption, Water and Sanitation and Security.

The no-nonsense Minister emphasised that the SLPP led government is determine to deliver on its promises to the people of Sierra Leone  based on the manifesto for which he said those who are not ready to align their projects and programmes with the 8 core priorities must take the exit door.

“We are calling on MDAs to align all their projects and programmes around the 8 core priorities, those who are not ready to do so, the exit door is open to them,” said Prof. David Francis.

Minister of Finance, Jacob Jusu Saffa disclosed that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation is due this month but pointed out that the IMF support is only limited to programmes and projects, not budgetary support. Government, he said, will empower the Audit Service to monitor the implementation of all government projects to ensure compliance.

By 2019, he said, government will embark on integrated tax system and electronic cash register to help revenue mobilization and institute discipline in the economy.
