2017 Hajj-Gate Scam… Victor Foh In Hot Waters

Lawyer Hindolo Moiwa Gevao representing the Deputy Chairman and Leader of the main opposition All People’s Congress Party (APC), Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray has submitted at High Court before Justice Reginald Fynn that it was the first accused, former Vice President Victor Bockarie Foh that single handedly withdrew the sum of US$315,000 (three hundred and fifteen thousand United States Dollars) from the Hajj Account without the prior knowledge of his client.

Lawyer Gevao further submitted that his client did not in any way collaborate with the former Vice President to embezzle the sum of US$80,000 (eighty thousand United States Dollars) from the Hajj account, stressing that it was the former Vice President who gave US$60,000 to his ADC to hand it over to his client, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray who later sent the said sum to former President Koroma through his ADC.

Lawyer H.M Gevao told the court that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has failed to produce a video recording to ascertain that the US$60,000 presented to Ex-President Ernest Bai Koroma by Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray which he received from former VP Foh was recorded but reiterated that the evidence was untendered in court.

Lawyer Gevao thereby submitted to the Hon. Justice Reginald Fynn that the Deputy Chairman and Leader of the APC Party was not in any way involved in the alleged chopping of Hajj money, adding further that his client did not tell the ACC that he was left with the sum of US$80,000 as was mentioned by the ACC investigators. He therefore requested that his client, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray be discharged on all of the charges against him.

Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, VP Foh and three others were arraigned before the court for alleged corruption related offences against the state with regards the misappropriation of the 2017 Hajj money.

The matter comes up today, 15th May, 2019 as all accused are on bail.
