19,430 Clear BECE Passes This Year

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Brima Michael Turay has disclosed that out of the 89,996 candidates that took the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in 826 schools nationwide, only 462 did not have the requirement to make it to Senior Secondary School.

According to the PRO, 45,063 boys and 44,968 girls took the examination and that most of them performed exemplarily well in subjects like Mathematics and Integrated Science. He however lamented that majority did not do well in English Language.

Mr. Turay furthered that about 19,430 pupils had clear passing marks for the schools they applied for, citing Providence International High School, Sierra Leone Grammar School and Methodist Boys High School as the schools that performed exemplarily well in the BECE.

Meanwhile, the PRO has disclosed that government plans to address the concerns raised by teachers with regards to their welfare.
